Hello! Welcome to my blog, I'm Almond, a physics student at university with a passion for astronomy and renewable energy. This blog is for everyone, whether a fellow science enthusiast, a curious amateur or someone who stumbled across this by accident but actually found it quite interesting. On this blog I'll be recommending interesting science podcasts and news articles, as well as sharing tips on careers and securing work experience for fellow science students.
Image: Taken from the eastern edge of the Cerro Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) in Chile, this image shows our beautiful galaxy, the Milky Way. The panorama shows the central and brightest part of the Milky Way. The bright objects on the left are the two Magellanic Clouds; the Andromeda Galaxy is visible on the right, just above the horizon. The green and red stripes in the sky are from airglow; the orange domes are from light pollution. These telescopes observe light in the optical wavelength that human eyes can see, and have to be located in dry places at high altitude to minimise the effects of atmospheric water vapour droplets scattering the light and distorting star images.
